This honor was developed collaboratively by the MSDH and the MHA as a way to recognize each facility that participated in the Mississippi Biosafety Preparedness Exercises in 2017 and 2018. The exercise consisted of a real-world outbreak scenario to assess each facility's ability and dedication to safely handle unknown, highly infectious agents in its laboratory. Each Biosafety Champion has helped strengthen our state's biosafety and biosecurity practices to ensure that we are prepared to evaluate the risk of any unknown biothreat.

The MSDH wishes to thank the laboratories who participated in the Mississippi 2017-2018 Biosafety Preparedness Exercise and commend our Biosafety Champion laboratories.
